Ronald E. Marenda, DDS
January 22, 1933 – October 16, 2021

Ronald Edmund Marenda, D.D.S., known by his friends as “RE”, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in San Mateo, California on October 16, 2021 at the age of 88. He was born in La Salle, Illinois on January 22, 1933 and moved with his parents to San Francisco in 1948. Ron graduated from Lincoln High School in 1950 and attended San Francisco State University for one and a half years before serving on Active Duty in the US Navy for the next two years, stationed at Treasure Island.

After his service, he graduated from UC Berkeley in 1956 and from the UCSF School of Dentistry in 1960. Upon graduating dental school, he entered private practice while also staying on the faculty of the Dental School through 1963. He completed an Orthodontic Residency in 1965 at the University of Oregon School of Dentistry and returned to his beloved San Francisco at that time. He practiced Orthodontics for 38 years, until retiring in 2003. During this time, he frequently donated his services to the Shriners’ Hospital for Children.

Ron is survived by his daughters Leslie Jean Davis of San Francisco, California and Susan Marenda King, M.D. of San Antonio, Texas, his granddaughter Alison Marie Davis of Los Angeles, California, and his two sons-in-law, Brian Farwell Davis and Robert Clyde King.

Ron was an avid sportsman and played basketball in high school and while in the Navy. He skied until the age of 81 and played golf up until his death. He loved the 49ers and Giants, and frequently attended games with his family and friends. He enjoyed his younger years as an usher at Kezar Stadium and held 49er season tickets at Candlestick Park.

One of Ron’s greatest joys was flying. He was an active private pilot for 47 years, traveling throughout the Western States and Mexico. He served as a volunteer on the San Mateo County Sherriff’s Air Squadron for over 15 years, and as Commander of the unit in 2008. Since 1967, Ron spent much of his time at The Olympic Club. He served on multiple committees, the Board of Directors, and was Vice President of the Club in 1997.

Ron will be remembered for his passion for life and his love for his friends and family.

A celebration of his life will be held in early 2022. For more information, please contact the family.
